Matanzas High School would like to thank those who have served our country; a special thank you to our faculty and staff members. We are be very proud of our service men and women no matter where they serve.

  1. MAJOR TOM HALL: A native of St. Augustine, FL, served in the Army as a Field Artillery Officer from 1983-2005. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in history from Georgia College and State University and his Master’s Degree from the US Army Command and General Staff College. During his time on active duty he served in various assignments in Europe and the United States. Some of his jobs included Battery Commander, Fire Support Officer, and Executive Officer of a Multiple Launch Rocket System Battalion and as Professor of Military Science at Georgia Military College. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal and he was inducted into the Honorable Order of St. Barbara. He’s our Senior Army Instructor.

  2. FIRST SERGEANT CARABALLO: Served in the United State Army for 24 plus years with a one year deployment to Baghdad, Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division. He had three oversea tours; two to Germany and one to South Korea, and numerous stateside assignments. Received a total of thirteen medals along with the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Drill Sergeant Badge, & Drivers Badge Wheel & Track. He was inducted into the Order of the Golden Spur and is also a proud recipient of the Honorable Order of St. Barbara. He’s our Army Instructor.

  3. SECOND LIEUTENANT ALLISON WINFREE: Entered the Air Guard in 1999 and served for two years. She’s currently in the Mathematics Department.

  4. FIRST SERGEANT COREY LOHR: Served in the United State Marine Corps for 22 years with three deployment, one to Operation Iraqi Freedom I (OIF), one to OIF II, and a to Afghanistan with the First Battalion, Eight Marines and with third Marine Special Operations Battalion for a total of 20 month. He was station in Pohang, South Korea and had numerous stateside assignments such as Camp Pendleton, CA, Parris Island, SC, and Camp LeJeune, NC. His Highest Award are Meritorious Service Medal second award; Navy Commendation Medal w/Combat. He’s a proud member of our Staff.

  5. CORPORAL ANGELA COATES: Joined the United States Marine Corps DEP program in June of 1998. After graduation, she left for boot camp June of 1999. After 13 weeks and one Crucible later; she earned her Eagle, Globe, and Anchor and became a United States Marine. She spent 4 years and 2 months in the Marines where she earned several medals and ribbons including Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, the Good Conduct Medal and a Navy Achievement Medal. Her primary MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) was Field Radio Operator and MIMMS (Marine Integrated Maintenance Management System). She was Honorably Discharged August 12, 2003. She is our I.S. Support Specialist.

  6. SERGEANT KES SOPHAL: Entered the United State Army in 1970, served for a total of four and a half years with one tour in Vietnam. He is currently a member of our ground maintenance crew.

  7. PETTY OFFICER AMANDA CYPERT: Served in the United States Navy for four years as an Electronic Warfare Cryptologic Technician, and was stationed on Corry Station in Pensacola, FL and the Aerospace Data Facility on Buckley AFB in Denver, CO.
