Dear Pirate Family,
I am so very appreciative for a wonderful start to the school year as we come to a close of the first semester. As we begin the second half of the school year, please help us to continue to stress to our students the importance of working to their full potential by completing all assignments and maintaining a study time at home. It is vitally important for students to stay on track academically and maintain good attendance.
During the 2nd semester we will be implementing our Academic Afterschool Assistance program for students who have not completed assignments. Also, we offer a full range of afterschool tutoring opportunities free to our students every Tuesday and Thursday. More information about these programs may soon be found on our website.
Please be sure to check out our Facebook page at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/MatanzasHigh You will see many pictures and stories about our students, teachers, staff and school.
We have an outstanding school because the devotion and hard work of everyone who calls MHS home. There is so much to be proud of from academics to athletics and from performing arts to individual student accolades. Though too many to list, a few include, 60 students we recently honored, who qualified as AP scholars, and six of whom earned National AP Scholar status. Also, Haley McQueen is the district’s Sunshine State Scholar for this school year. And our JROTC program was recently awarded Honor Unit with Distinction, which is the highest honor they could achieve.
I am proud to announce that Hala Laquidera, our teacher who leads our Legacy Program at Princess Place, received a $47,500 grant from State Farm to be used in a biodiversity survey of the preserve. Our school also received a $1,000 gift from Kangaroo Stores that was used to help students in need at our school.
